The UNC Graduate and Professional Student Federation is here for all graduate and professional students here at UNC, including you! Our 4 main goals are to:
Advocate for improved resources for graduate and professional students
Promote active participation in university, local, state, national, and international issues
Collaborate with university administration, faculty, staff, and undergraduate students to create policies that reflect the interests of all graduate and professional students
Integrate graduate and professional students from all disciplines in research and social life
You can find out what we've accomplished lately by browsing this site. Or, click here for a pdf copy of our latest brochure and get informed by reading the latest e-newsletter.
The Executive Officers implement and advocate the interests of graduate and professional students to the university administration and handle the day-to-day operations of the GPSF. Want to get involved? Elections are held each spring.
All branches of the GPSF keep track of their affairs transparently on this website. Visit the GPSF Executive Wiki to see what's going on with the Exec board now.
Each degree-granting program in the General College and Professional schools has a representative in the GPSF Senate. The Senate is the main legislative body within GPSF, which provides the definitive position of the GPSF on university issues. Want to get involved? You can attend meetings to learn more about what is happening on our campus, or become a senator and be the voice of your department! Click here to see a list of meetings.
The Senate organizes its affairs with a Wiki. Visit the Senate Wiki to see what's going on.
The Cabinet is the dynamic subunit of GPSF that enables exceptionally motivated graduate and professional students to brainstorm, design, implement, and engage new initiatives for the benefit of the entire graduate and professional student community. Want to get involved? You can apply to serve on the cabinet and work on any of a number of issues that interest you. Positions include: public service, city and local relations, social, child care, and many more...
Our Cabinet is organized via a collaborative Wiki. Visit the Cabinet Wiki to check out what's going on.
Graduate and Professional Students serve on over 50 university committees through GPSF External Appointments. These students voice the perspective and opinions of graduate students directly to the university administrators and offices who make things happen. From Tuition and Fees to the Carolina Union Board of Directors and Student Dining Board of Directors, and everything in between, let your voice be heard. You can apply to serve on any number of committees, or place your name for consideration on ad hoc committees created throughout the year.
See who's currently representing you!
The External Appointments Application is used for all of Student Government and was created by our very own GPSF IT.
What do we offer you?
The GPSF hosts a Handbook as a general guide to UNC and the town of Chapel Hill for all graduate students. Starting Summer 2006, this handbook is entirely collaborative. If you'd like to contribute to the handbook, just log into this site with your onyen, and edit it as you see fit. We hope that this will become a rich repository of institutional knowledge that would otherwise go undocumented.
If you're unfamiliar with Wikis, or with our website, check out our Wiki documentation. There are links there to get you started, and we hope you'll be contributing to the site soon! Please be sure to adhere to UNC's web policies when you add content to our handbook.
This is the GPSF Wiki, a collaborative website where GPSF members and others can add content collectively. Effective immediately, the GPSF is offering Wiki access to groups and individuals on campus! For more information, see this page. For a list of currently active public wiki spaces on campus, as well as their recently updated content, check out the Dashboard.
The GPSF provides a number of discussion forums, where graduate students can discuss topics ranging from child care to housing and roommate information.
If you don't find what you're looking for above, check out our resource page. We've assembled a long list of links to local organizations and services. If you don't find what you're looking for there, you always contact us.
